A Legacy of Trust and Expertise
Founded on the principles of trust, transparency, and expertise, SMA boasts a rich legacy in the precious metals industry. SMA was founded by Julian Phillips in 2013 as a private investment storage protection company. Julian had always held a deep respect for analysing and managing risk in both his corporate operations and personal investment activities.
In 1971, Julian specialized in Exchange control in the U.K. He then became a Macro economist at Eskom, the country’s sole electricity supplier in South Africa. After that, he then worked at Hill Samuel as a gold expert and Fund manager. This was followed by him setting up the Fund management department at a South African financial institution called the Board of Executors. Julian then specialized in Exchange Control in Zimbabwe and South Africa. Julian returned to Gold in the early 2000’s, successfully forecasting Gold’s developments. He then applied the culmination of all this experience over 40 years into directing the operations for Stockbridge Management Alliance Ltd.
From the early 2000’s, Julian determined that global risk was growing increasingly apparent as debts and derivative levels rapidly rose. He had already been interested in physical gold and silver as the ultimate protection-asset against accelerating risks in the financial system.
In 2013, SMA was set up as a system for buying and storing gold and Silver, choosing the highest quality refinery and vaulting partners for acquiring and storing the same. In 2015 Julian closely mentored his daughter Rebekah and she then joined SMA. The two of them worked to optimize the company, which is now running today. In 2017, after Julian’s passing, Rebekah took over the running of the company in full capacity.
Due to the growing demand from other investors around the world, SMA became a Swiss storage and British regulated company in 2014. Since then, SMA has grown from a private risk management operation for personal funds into a global enterprise.
